First day of conference was a bit “hotter” than I expected. A number of participants attended the welcome program were three invited keynote speakers showed interest in their speeches. The first speech was given by Christel Weller-Molongua, Head of Rural Development and Agriculture Division of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, I was really impressed with her presentation talking about the role of development cooperation in bridging the gap between increasing knowledge and decreasing resources. This was followed by Jimmy Smith, Director General of International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Kenya. He presented three different plausible scenarios for livestock growth. I could felt and noticed that participants were really into by looking at their facial expressions. The audio room was “even hotter” when the last keynote speaker Miroslav Zámečník from Boston Venture Central Europe, Czech Republic, posed two questions at the beginning of his speech “When can nature pay for biodiversity conservation? Can local communities prosper by protecting wildlife? In addition to their speeches, we as student reporters did a short interview with them and check out for their responses (video coming soon..). So I say, number of participants all over the world wanted to attend to hear about the new information or findings about research that might be helpful for them when they go back home.
